PG 1 - Woodland Heritage Weekend
Woodland Heritage Weekend - Sustainable Forestry in Hereford Added 24/06/08.
Hereford is a tremendous county for the quality of its many broadleaf woodlands. Soils, precipitation and history all work together to produce some of the finest oak, ash and chestnut timbers in England. During the WH Weekend, visits took place to Aconbury (see also below), Whitney Estate and local sawmills, charting the story of high value timber production in a landscape of outstanding ecological and cultural value. The images here, all by Sharon Rodhouse, demonstrate some of the issues around high value timber production, timber extraction and processing. Most of the woodlands included in the programme are now managed under close-to-nature or CCCF principles.
