PG 3 - Wythop Wood
Wythop Wood, Bassenthwaite Lake, Cumbria Added 29/05/08.
This woodland is dominated by mature Douglas fir (age approximately 90 years) and is now designated as one of the Forestry Commission's National CCF Trial Areas. The woodland is managed on an operational basis, and a variety of prescriptions and silvicultural approaches are being used. The images here demonstrate a variety of canopy openings, underplanting with Douglas fir and broadleaves, and an increasing amount of natural regeneration.
