Description: The 2015 Wales meeting was held at Ffrwdgrech Estate which has been owned by the Evans family for over 100 years. The day was led by Ian Barrington of Pryor and Rickett Silviculture. Ian took over the management of the Estate from the late Talis Kalnars in 2005 and has continued to apply similar management techniques since then. Reports will be available in due course.

The 2015 Scotland meeting was held on Thursday September 24th at Novar Estate.

The day was led by Ronald Munro Ferguson and Cameron Ross and attended by 50 delegates.

Date: Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October 2015

Location: Stourhead (Weston) Estate, Stourton, near Mere and the Rushmore Estate on the Wiltshire/Dorest border

Description: These two day courses, offered by SelectFor Ltd, provide an in-depth introduction to the theory and practical application of irregular silviculture in coniferous and broadleaved stands with the emphasis on lowland forests. The courses are designed for 14 trainees and will be led by Andy Poore and David Pengelly. The two day course costs £330+VAT per person. Location: The New Forest


The 2015 England meeting was held on Thursday June 4th in the New Forest.

The day was led by Dr Jens Haufe the Forestry Commission’s principal trainer, with added input from Dr Gary Kerr of Forest Research.

Location: Faskally and Atholl Estates, Perthshire

Description: In the morning we visited Baluain on the Atholl Estate where regeneration of the existing larch plantation has been managed using a group selection system. In the afternoon we went to Faskally Forest where transformation towards an irregular forest was started 60 years ago.
